WHAT CAN HELP YOU WASH YOUR SILK PRODUCTS CORRECTLY?

WHAT CAN HELP YOU WASH YOUR SILK PRODUCTS CORRECTLY?

A fair number of people find that their silk clothing didn’t look as lovely as before. The clothing became faded, wrinkled and even snagged after washing. Why could such unpleasant thing happen? Items constructed from silk fabric can last a lifetime, and can easily become heirlooms if properly cared for. One of the most important elements in determining the lifespan of an item is the correct method used to clean the silk product.

Read the following tips, cleaning and washing silk products will be definitely simple and convenient. So relax and enjoy your silk life!

  1. Never use bleach when you wash your silk bedding. The best way to care for silk is simply avoid contact with chemicals, especially those with strong basic/acidic properties such as bleach.
  2. Use a gentle detergent, such as Woolite or TENESTAR. If you are hand washing your silk linen you can also use a gentle shampoo, such as Dr. Bronner’s Baby Mild Soap.
  3. Never dry your silk in a dryer with any heat setting. Too much heat can dull, puck or burn silk fabric. You can use a non-heat tumble dry for a short period or a specific silk setting if your dryer has this option. Give it a gentle squeeze and leave it to air dry. Most wrinkles in silk can be removed by hanging the sleepwear in the bathroom during a shower. Let humidity do the ironing for you!
  4. Do use lukewarm water when washing your silk clothing. If you have hard water, you may wish to first add a spoonful of borax to the washing water.
  5. Do act quickly if you stain your silk linen. Spot cleaners designed for silk work best, but if you don’t have one of these on hand, try cleaning the stain with cold water and detergent (works great for protein stains, such as blood). For tough stains you can bring your linen to a dry cleaner. Just remember that the longer you wait the harder and less likely you will be able to remove the stain. (remember, do not ever use hot water with silk)
  6. If you do wish to machine wash silk, please use Delicate Cycle and mild detergent and use the shortest spin cycle. In a top-loading machine, we strongly recommend using a mesh bag for extra protection (this step would not be necessary in a front-loading machine). Always separate your colors.
